Question can your macintosh run maverick or yosemite??

Go into the app store and try to download yosemite if it won't let you then i am sorry to say 10.7.5 is the max his machine can go and he won't be able to play his game.

This is due to apple rigging the boot efi and installations to 64 bit efi macintoshes only.

this also honestly sucks because several macintoshes have a 64 bit cpu but apple never decided to upgrade the 32 bit efi to a 64 bit one.

Hello and welcome to the forum! :)

Please provide the specs on your computer - you can purchase Mountain Lion (10.8.x) from the Apple Store for $20. The hardware requirements are shown below, hence the need for the information. Should get your thread going about upgrading to the next OS X or possibly even further? Dave

We're going to need the specs for your Mac before giving any advice on how to upgrade. We first need to know if your Mac can run anything higher than Lion.

Mac model and year?

you should be able to run yosemite on that model but i would recommend a memory upgrade first as 4 gig's is not enough you need 16 gig's or better

That machine can run the latest version of OS X - Yosemite 10.10.2. Since you already have Lion installed, you can download Yosemite for free from the Mac App Store. Make sure first that Sim City will run in Yosemite.

I would suggest getting more RAM (you have 4GB and that iMac will take a lot more). It will help the game but more importantly it will be a general improvement that will help everything you do with that machine. I would get at least 8GB or 16GB if you can.

I did change to Yosemite on my other Mac a MacBook Pro and have had such SLOWNESS problems... I didn't know if I should pull it down to replace Lion on a just out of the box, no screw ups or tangles yet computer like my big MAC... have they ironed out bugs on Yosemite yet?
