Hi, I currently have two Macs. What I would like to do is purchase a single hard drive (approx 8TB) that would be accessible by both Macs at the same time instead of having to unplug each time.

I know I could buy a network Drive to do this and access it through an ethernet cable but is there anything on the market where I can have two USB cables running from the drives to both computers as this would give me quicker transfer times especially when backing up.

If there is can anyone give some links or otherwise advise the best way to do it.

Thanks.

Not possible for a stand alone drive. You need an NAS solution.

The issue is the controller in the drive enclosure is limited to what it can process. That is why USB external drives are cheaper than Firewire or Thunderbolt types of drives.
