Don't know, we've never stayed in any 4 and 5 star hotels before either. 2 of the 4 we stayed in had that typical vending machine. Stayed in one 5 star hotel, and besides the outward high dollar use of materials for flooring, walls, etc; the room amenities were not nearly as nice as one of the 3 star hotels we stayed in.
The 5 star had no coffee pot, had a 19" CRT TV, and no coffee pot. Did have a large bathroom with a small Jacuzzi tub and a separate shower. Once in the shower, if you dropped the miniature bottle of shampoo, you had to open the door and step out of it to pick it up. It did have free wi-fi and they certainly laid out an exquisite breakfast and dinner. You could call for room service and get coffee delivered in a silver service with crumpets though and for free.
The 4 star we stayed at the last night in Dublin was very nice, located directly across the street from the 82,000 seat rugby stadium. It had a coffee pot, iron and presser, coffee pot, hair dryer, 24" LCD TV, coffee pot, a stereo with CD player, wi-fi and wired ethernet in the room.
Guess you can tell where my priorities are when my feet swing over the edge of the bed in the morning. Of course, we didn't spend much time in the hotel anywhere we stayed except to get in late and out early.
