That's really good news Ann, it must be one of the few times I can recall where upgrading a macOS actually fixed something.
Given the majority of your issues are fixed I don't think there's any need to Migrate again even if the data is not exactly the same on each, that's going to happen anyway. Assuming it causes no problems.
As for creating a second user on your old device for your husband, good idea but I'm not sure about the password concern. If he used iCloud sync default options on the 2014 iMac they will include Safari, Mail, Contacts etc. When he logs into his Apple account on your old device everything should sync across. Or did iiss something?
