Wal-Mart is selling them for $99 will be hard to sell yours for more than that

edit.... sorry, its the 3Gs Walmart is selling for $99.

You can get way more than $99 for the 3GS.

It is $99 with a two year contract. People who don't want the contract will pay more.

Here's another point you might consider. Yes, I've heard that Verizon's network is superior to ATT',s, but I've also heard that this greatly depends upon your geographical location.

Setting that aside, you also have to factor in how many people are going to jump ship from ATT to Verizon. Verizon may experience a massive influx of network usage, while ATT as they hopefully are trying to restore their trunk lines, might wind up leveling out and having just as good or better service than Verizon. The effects of the transition might not be seen immediately, but could rear its head several months after the initial dust settles.

(thanks to Filow for that idea)

On a side note, I wonder when Verizon is going to ditch CDMA technology, given that the rest of the world is using GSM? This also has to be factored in at some point I think, considering that Apple will have to spend more money in order to support the hardware for said CDMA chips. This also brings up whether or not you'd be able to travel internationally with your Verizon iPhone, unless they also put a GSM sim slot in for such use, as they do on some Blackberries.

you know, its funny how people think Verizon is the cell phone promise land when their network is slower and more restrictive.

I have two phones, my old 3g iphone on AT&T and my work Verizon phone, Blackberry Curve 8530. I am a Territory sales manager for south Texas and I travel all over the place for work. I get more reception on my iphone in most places then I do with my Verizon. Thats not to say that their are times where my iphone has no signal and my blackberry does...sure. But 90% of the time, Verizon has no service and my iPhone has 3 or 4 bars.

Verizon is not going to get the iphone. I seriously doubt their network can handle it. Otherwise, this would have been the venue to announce it. Its not coming folks.

From what I understand, they will not be trading CDMA for GSM, but will be rolling out LTE in several core markets later this year.

I've had Verizon. In the 3 major cities I've lived in (Boston, NYC and LA) I've had maybe 3-4 calls drop in the entire 8 years I was with them. Their network was as fast as AT&Ts. To me, Verizon is the best and was even before the iPhone came along.

Verizon doesn't have the iPhone because Apple has an exclusive contract with them through a certain year. And trust me- Apple is excited to get out of it.

Verizon customer here... kept waiting for the iPhone to come to Verizon, but now tired of waiting. My Droid Incredible will be here on the 16th.

It takes a bit of getting used to, especially if you've had an iPhone OS device. But I've grown to love my Inc. In particular, the camera is phenomenal.

Check out accessories here:

Seidio - Your Single Source for Premium Smartphone Accessories

In particular, the screen guards and the case are the best on the market right now (the device is really new). Verizon's accessories are awful, don't waste your money.

Good to hear that you like it. I looked at one in the store and was very impressed. That phone is all I am really considering at this point. I am ready next month and will be saying farewell to my Storm.

Can you tell me if there is a micro-sd slot? It appears from my reading that the 8gb is built in, is that true?

Yes, it has a MicroSD slot that can accommodate cards up to 32GB. There is 8GB of on-board storage, which is unique to the Incredible in terms of Android phones (from what I understand) - most of the other phones rely on the slot for storage.

I will definitely check out the Incredible but I love how my iPhone syncs with ical and my address book and safari bookmarks on my mac.

On top of that, I love the OS. It's easy to use and I'm so use to it. In fact, any problem I had with the iPhone's OS (which I didn't know I had until they announced the features of iOS 4) will be fixed when iOS4 comes out.

But all the talk about the Incredible and the EVO 4g (even though, I'd never get Sprint) will definitely require a trip to my local verizon/sprint stores to check them out.

All this being said, I'm leaning towards buying the new iPhone. I can't torture myself by waiting for Verizon, Apple and AT&T to get their **** together on this and I love the iOS and the iPhone 4

That's definitely a hold up with any of the Droids. Personally, I just exported all of my stuff out to Gmail and called it a day. That doesn't handle bookmarks, but then there's also 'The Missing Sync' for Android if you really have to sync locally. For me, it's much easier to sync with 'the cloud'.

The problem with this (for me) is I'm waiting for the internet to load the mobile webpages or the apps to get the info from the cloud where as on the iPhone I have a native app that takes my info instantly and syncs it when I'm done.

Maybe on AT&T, but not on Verizon. All of my syncing is instant. No need for any mobile pages or whatnot. Email goes to Mail, appointments go to Calendar, Contacts synchronize with Gmail and vice versa with the local Contacts app. It's all instant and seamless.

No, that's not what I mean. In order to get the info, you need to load the app which requires access from your device to the web. All of these steps take time since they're not truly native. It may be "really fast" and work "seamlessly" but they're not instant and they often do not store the info on the phone for use in offline mode.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to checking out the iPhone 4 at the Apple stores. I can only hope they'll be on display before June 24th.

Actually once it's synced it's stored locally - I can turn off the transmitter entirely and still see me calendar/contacts/mail, I just won't see anything new since the last time it's synced (which it does constantly over 3G)

If verizon had a iphone announcement, their network would be crushed under the shear weight of people using the data. And even though they have other people who have smart phones like the incredible and others, the iphone's market share dwarfs those and are only on one network. Dont kid yourself that verizon is going to be any different.

NO ,the reason Verizon doesn't have the iPhone is that they turned it down in '07 !

I'm not sure anyone here knows how well Verizon would do with the iPhone operating on technology other than GSM. The technology is there I'm sure, but it takes money to pull it all off - no profit, no investment. My guess is that most of the print on it is pure speculation, the rest is probably educated guess. I would hope the Verzion Test Leads would have run various performance tests against it before deployment. Still, there are always those things that pop up unexpectedly. I'd love to be a fly on the wall if/when they they start their development and testing of the whole thing.

Oh, I dunno about that. Keep in mind that Verizon's EVDO network was one of the first cellular based high speed data networks in this country. It's actually been around so long that it's on its second major revision (rev A). Because of this, Verizon had a great many early adopters in the business market for mobile broadband solutions (for example, my company alone has several hundred of these mobile USB and PC Cards).

Not only that, but RIM dwarfs Apple's market share - and VZW is one of RIM's biggest carriers.

AT&T sucked before the iPhone, it sucks now, and most likely will continue to suck until the end of time.

All of this is interesting.

You have to take into account that RIM has around 5 different phones on the market while Apple only has 1. It's 1 thing to dilute the market with 5+ different phones- it's another to take 1 to market and make it as or more popular.

On another note- I played with an Evo 4G for a bit. It's big. it's got a nice screen but I felt I couldn't find anything on it. Couldn't find the music or videos stored on the phone. Couldn't find the app store after looking for 5 mins. (literally). Also, little things like menu gliding is not really so smooth.

Overall I liked its physique, screen and the cameras were nice, but the OS seemed really cluttered and I couldn't find anything.
