Do you have a back up of before the deletion, that will have the missing files on it.

Well, appears that you've deleted a lot of essential files including the location and/or the app itself - assume you were w/i Finder deleting from the Applications folder? Depending on how your 'Trash' is handled, take a look there for the files and possibly restore the ones needed.

Of course, if you do not have a backup as was previously suggested, you could simply re-install the app (not sure if you have saved files that are of importance and could be lost?) - check the app's website to see if there is an 'un-install' procedure - if not, you might want to download the app below which will load the associated files for a more complete removal. Good luck - Dave

Are the files you trashed still in the trash and have you emptied the Trash?

If they are still in the Trash, your Mac OS version may have an option to the allows you to choose " put away" which should put the files back where they came from and allow you to carry on as you were expecting to do.

Otherwise you will have to use one of your backups to get things back into shape and workable.

thanks for your replies, I did empty the trash and I have tried reinstalling but it still comes up with same problem. as for a backup I honestly don't know. If I go into system settings all that comes up is general spotlight and media link cannot get into the system settings.Im afraid I have made a right mess of things.

OK, from your description it sounds like your Mac has experienced a bit of a disaster have some might call ALL FUBARed.

If and when you get your Mac recovered, it might be good advice to get yourself some sort of backup of the data on your machine that you use.

Just a thought. 😉

In your deletion enthusiasm, you have deleted something that was critical. With no backup, and given the fact that reinstalling the app that needed whatever you deleted didn't put it back in place, there isn't much that can be done. As Patrick says, it's pretty much un-recoverable.

You don't have many alternatives. If this app is the ONLY one not performing, then just get rid of it and use something else that will work. If, however, there are other apps not working and throwing errors because of your deletions, then you might try making a backup of what you have and then reinstalling the operating system through the Rovery process, which should just put the system back as Apple designed and leave your data alone. If that doesn't work then you may want to consider the "nuke and pave" approach of making a backup of your critical data, then wiping out the hard drive, installing the OS from new, then reinstalling all of the apps you want/need and then restoring your data and see if that somehow puts back what you deleted. It might, or might not.

Two takeaways: 1) don't delete things you don't know about, and 2) backup.

Hello again - relative to Patrick's Fubar acronym, is your iMac working at all? If you are having multiple issues w/o a backup (e.g. Time Machine, Carbon Copy Cloner, Super Duper, etc.), you likely will have to reinstall your macOS - if so, provide us more information about your computer - go to the Apple (left corner menu bar) > About and tell us the specs shown below (from my laptop) - Dave

The suggestion here to reinstall it and then follow the official uninstall instructions is a good one and will likely solve similar problems in the future in case you run into this again.
