G3 HD Upgrade Question

I have an old iMac G3 DVD Slot-Loading model and I'm thinking of putting in a 40GB HD in to replace the old 10GB. I was able to install Tiger on the 10GB drive without any problems by updating the firmware with 9.2 If I replace the HD, will I have to install 9.2 and update firmware again? Or can I just put in the DVD to install Tiger.

I am going to assume you'd need to install OS9 and update the firmware.
