ftp using built in "Connect to Server"

Ok I can connect to a server using the Finders "Connect to Server" feature, but every single time the disk shows up on the desktop I can't edit it.. now why is that? What's the point also? Help!

Yeah, i noticed that as well. Not sure how to fix it, though im pretty sure system prefs would fix it, or a quick key stroke in the terminal. But who knows :)
