Frustrated Boot Camper

I have my copy of Windows XP - and whenever I try to install, Mac OS X restarts, and then Windows hangs at "Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration." It's so irritating! I left it on overnight and it didn't move! What's wrong?

What version of XP are you using??? I believe it must be XP SP2 in order to install properly.

No, that isn't true xp with no service pack will install....

OOPPSS! just noticed he is talking Boot Camp, sorry, i have Parallels with just plain XP...

Important: Your Windows XP installation disc must include Service Pack 2 (SP2). You cannot install an earlier version of Windows and upgrade it to Windows XP, nor install an earlier version of Windows XP and update it with SP2 later. See below for more information.

If that is the problem, you can create a slipstreamed disk w/sp2. That's what I did and it worked great.

This disk is SP2. So I don't need to so any slipstreaming, it should just work

It turns out my disk was Windows 2000! For some reason it was burnt to a DVD! ugh

Sorry you've had some troubles.

I just finished installing Boot Camp earlier tonight and it worked like a charm. Though I kind of felt dirty putting XP on my new MBP. I've not had many problems using XP at all, but I don't necessarily want OS X hanging out with the neighborhood kid with the bad rep.

I had Boot Camp running for about five hours, I tweaked it got the patches into the OS had everything configured and well, I deleted windows before the evening was through.

My Mac ran hot with XP, I mean really hot. the heat coming out near the cpu was almost enough to burn my fingers, the computer froze a few times and going back to he XP interface after OSX was like torment.

My smooth as silk MacBook pro was suddenly an overheating patched up , flaky mess, a lot like most of the windows boxen I'd dealt with.

Yes I proved to myself it can be done, and all i can think of is why did I bother?

LOL ~ I feel the same way... hoping I have no reason to install it!

The only reason I am even considering XP via Boot Camp and redoing my Parallels setup, is so that I can run VMWare Labs or Demo's for work. Otherwise, I don't see any reason to do it.
