Friend of mine accidentally deleted iMovie and is having trouble getting back

She told me that in the appstore it won't let her install the app unless she upgraded to Yosemite, which I don't think she wants to do. Is there another way to download the app without dealing with Yosemite.

If the friend accidentially deleted iMovie...and she cannot download iMovie from the app store due to the Yosemite detail. Then the friend deleted an older version of iMovie...and she needs to download the older version she had (if it can be found).

Would she need an iLife disc of that version?

Do you know what iMovie version it was? Or at least what version of the Mac OS does her computer have? Then she could at least get the latest version compatible with that OS.

I was just thinking. If she purchased iMovie previously...it should be in her "Purchases" at the App Store. And she would just need to redownload it.

Is she clicking on the "Purchases" icon at the top of the App Store window? If so...she should be presented with a list of apps that she has purchased. I sure how she didn't pay for iMovie before realizing she needed OS 10.10 to run it.

I think it actually came preinstalled with the computer, or iLife anyway

I just checked my own Mavericks 10.9.5 and I have both iMovie 9 from iLife '09 and iMovie 10.0.5 from Apple "purchases", but all it says there now is an Update is available and yes it requires Yosemite. How dumb is that Apple!!! Gheese!!

At least I still have my iLife DVD that I could actually use if one had been deleted. But I'm sure not impressed with Apple's methods if this is their way.

But is there no backup anywhere??? Time Machine or…????

I think that this is where not having disks anymore can make things difficult. And of course accidentially deleting things can make things difficult too. She could try calling Apple at the 800 number...and see what they can do for her.

If she would rather not upgrade to Yosemite at this time. Seems a shame to be forced to in order to use the newest iMovie.

...as well as not having a backup via Time Machine.
