Format from PC?

I have been given a mid-2011 Macbook air and I know it has a faulty hard drive. I have a spare drive and want to know if I can format it using a PC?

I just found out it has an ssd, so scrub that!

Was just about to mention that (MBA has SSD)...but you figured it out first!

Are you definitely sure the MBA's SSD is no good? You may be able to boot up from the Recovery Partition...run the Disk Utility app...and maybe get things going again.

If the SSD is bad...they can be replaced:
