I've had my MacBook since christmas 2009 and I love it, but one thing which I really hate is that Flash seems to be very slow or unstable on MAC OS X. For example, certain actions on YouTube will cause my MacBook to freeze for a few seconds. I'm a long time Windows user and have found that Windows seems to deal with the flash format a lot better than MAC OS X.

Is it just me having this problem, or is this a common fault in MAC OS X? :(

It's common. Flash on the Mac is garbage. It has been acknowledged by Adobe that the code they use for Flash is optimized for Windows and the Mac version is built from that code. That's why you see the difference between the two versions.

Use sites that support alternate methods from Flash. You can use HTML5 video at YouTube for example. Flash is rather awful on any platform if you ask me :p

This is the exact nature of the "feud" between Apple and Adobe. Apple has waited patiently for the better part of TEN YEARS NOW for Adobe to fix Flash (it could be better on Windows too, but it REALLY needs fixing on the Mac) and they've consistently lagged WAY behind other developers (even Microsoft, and *that's saying something*) in adopting the current dev platform. That's why we STILL don't have an Intel-only or 64-bit version of CS, and why they were YEARS behind in getting a UniBin version. Honestly even Quark was quicker!!

Apple now has, I believe, the leverage to force Adobe to get off their, um, hindquarters and FIX FLASH. They are tired of their customers being treated like second-class citizens, and frankly if Adobe caves on this, users on ALL platforms will benefit (but particularly Mac users).

I'd bet that's why they're holding out on letting Flash run on iPad and iPhone. They're trying to force Adobe into not sucking.

But that's like spitting into the wind.

Yea, it's widely speculated that that is the reason, Jamie. Of course, the other reason is maybe they're trying to expedite to push to HTML 5, which sucks a lot less than flash does. HD video that loads quick and doesn't make my cpu use jump to 70+% capacity? Yes please. :)
