Just a heads up- once you do find your copy of OS, I've been using "Disk Maker X" with great results.

I work IT so supporting all of the operating systems is a bit difficult, but I've loaded up almost every version of OS onto a flash drive (some multi-boots) with great success.

Give it a try!

Your SD card will work just fine- even if it is a cheap one, but do know that the cheaper ones will have more errors in the reading and writing process than higher quality ones- increasing the percentage of a corrupted installation.
