I don't think this is an application specific problem, but everything else seems to work fine. Finale 2007 is a notation program that uses a considerable amount of RAM. However, I am using a brand new 17'' 2.0Gghz Core 2 Duo that has a gig of ram. When i use the playback and midi functions of the program, it always crashes. This never used to happen until yesterday, when it started crashing out of nowhere.

When I use Activity Monitor I have noticed that ALOT of memory is being used when I have no applications running, and that only about 1/2 is free BEFORE i even start this program. Also, some of these background processes (Dashboard, etc.) seem to taking up over 200MB of Virtual Memory EACH? Is this normal, or did something get out of wack here?

Again, I have not made any recent changes to the program or computer to bring this problem about, so any suggestions or comments would be very well appreciated.

Short answer...yeah, it's "normal" for that to happen.

Welcome to 2007, in which a simple Dashboard calculator takes up 150MB of virtual memory (on my system as I speak.)
