Files are missing from folders on MacBook Pro

I notice I am finding empty folders I titled with no files in them on my MacBook Pro. Either I moved those files, or something else is going on.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Not enough information. If folders are empty, either they were always empty, or you deleted/moved the files from there. Files do NOT disappear on their own without user actions.

In addition to Ashwin's comments - with which I agree - do any of the Folders have a curved arrow on top or under them?

I only ask so that we can disregard the possibility that these Folders were Links.

Or unless the Operating System or some user or utility created such invisible files or folders.

What is the original or modified date of such empty folders???

They do if the Mac's Directory is damaged.

The OP should run Disk Utility/First Aid to see if that brings her files back:

Use the First Aid feature of Disk Utility to find and repair disk errors.

If the OP has a bootable backup, I would boot into that and check the problem folder to see if thge files show in the backup.
If they do, note file name, boot back into the current drive and use Find-Any-File to try to find the missing file.
Sometimes files get moved inadvertently - happened to me.
