File Vault trouble

So, I tried to use the File Vault feature so I could set up an additional user (my wife) on my G5 tower with OSX 10.4.11 and not worry about my files disappearing or moving around and when it was finished encrypting, I logged in and my additional 500 gig internal (with ALL my stuff) wasn't showing up in the finder. I turned File Vault off (which took 2 1/2 hrs) and then when I logged back in the drive still wasn't there. I can see it with Utilities, but it won't mount.

I would appreciate any help.

Would you mind telling how you sorted it out? Might help somebody else in future . Glad you got it fixed though, I'd have been tearing my hair out.
