Hi all,

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) w/ 8gb of ram running OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 . I am having the following problem;

Every time I try to use my Microsoft external Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, the mouse constantly stutters. The stuttering is worse when I have a resource heavy program open (Lightroom, various games).

I have tried every solution possible that I have come across through google, such as various terminal commands and specific reboots.

Any idea what could be causing this problem and how I might fix it?

Welcome to our forums.

The stuttering may be due to a bad bluetooth connection or even interference. Most bluetooth devices should be able to pair with your MBP, but it depends on the device itself. I have no experience with the MS mouse and keyboard. I'm assuming you're using them for gaming? Do you have another bluetooth mouse and keyboard you can test with?

Thanks for your reply!

I've just looked at the mouse/keyboard and I'm an idiot; it is not bluetooth but one with a seperate USB transceiver.

I have found USB mice that are designed to work with Microsoft OS are hit and miss on a Mac. In my case if a mouse stutters it is gone because I do too much precise work to tolerate it. I currently have a mac trackpad and magic mouse attached to my Mac Pro because I like different devices for different jobs.

My suggestion to you is to try a different mouse. I would especially look for one that states it will work with Mac OS. Also if you plan to upgrade to Sierra I will say how devices worked with El Capitan may not be true in Sierra. I have a Microsoft mouse I use with a 2009 Macbook that runs El Capitan and it works great. If I move that mouse to my MB Pro which runs Sierra, it is jerky. I will say, while it is expensive, an apple magic mouse works the best but the way it works and feels is not for everyone.
