Hi, I'm new to mac-forums. I need help. I recently got a WD Elements 1TB USB 2.0 External HD. By recently, I mean like two weeks ago. I've used it about twice. I partitioned it into two, one for time machine and one for storage. Then I moved my entire iPhoto Library over to it. I tried to plug it in today, and iPhoto wouldn't open on it. Now the partitions won't mount at all. I NEED these pictures. WD is completely unhelpful, telling me that my partitions are corrupt and I need to reformat. Apparently the data isn't their problem, which I guess I understand. Disk Utility tried to verify it, told me that I needed to repair it, and then was unable to do so. Is there anything I can do to get these pictures off of it?

Kind of unusual for a brand new drive to fail like that. You didn't unplug the drive without ejecting it first did you? Because that will quickly corrupt data if you did.

Anyway, right now about the only thing I can suggest is to use recovery software or special repair software. Both are rather expensive.

Disk Warrior = $99.95

Data Rescue 3 = $99

I did actually. Like the clutz I am, I fell over the cord and ripped it out of my laptop. Great. Someone suggested Stellar, but is Disk Warrior better?

Well don't feel bad, it happens to the best of us. :) And yes, Disk Warrior is superior to Stellar in my opinion. By the way, I forgot to mention that both of those applications I recommended above have trial versions you can download and test with first.

Okay, well. Stellar sort of sucks customer service wise, so I'll go to Disk Warrior. My iPhoto library was trashed, and the file still exists. Can Disk Warrior recover trashed files as well? I didn't see it in the description..

Disk Warrior is designed to repair the file and folder structure on a drive not recover damaged or lost files. That's what Data Rescue 3 does best.
