Export chats from whatsapp. Is it safe? Does it really miss some files?

Hi. I'm trying to free up some space on my iphone and mainly most of the photos and files are on whatsapp's chats.
I've read and seen on youtube that you can export chats with media, save it somewhere, and then delete it (clear chat). My worry is that they say it doesn't export everything and at times it misses some files (photos or chats), so it's not always a safe procedure. Is it true?

As you say that the bulk of the space is taken up by photos, why not just move these photos to the iPhone’s Photos App?

Very easy to do and - as you say - photos take up vastly more space than the text. So no particular need to export the photos to another site other than the Photos App.

Hope this helps.

Photos in WhatsApp automatically go to Apple Photos, it was part of the initial set up.

Jim; I’m not sure it is “automatic” in the sense that all photos go to Apple’s Photo App whether you want it or not.

There is, however, an easy and quick way of selecting those you want to move to the Photos App - or am I missing something? I certainly would NOT want all the pics sent via WhatsApp to go to Photos. Many are either a one-time look and laugh or of no interest to me at all.

How do you move these photos to the iphone's photo app? And also if you move them in this app, don't they still remain in the iphone and occupy space?

You all have mentioned the Apple Photos app, but if I move them there (please explain me how), don't they still occupy space on the iphone? My goal is to free up space.

All mine go there, and sit in an album automatically created, I just delete the ones I don’t want to keep.

Same with mine so you can just delete those chats unless you need the text too. I would consult WhstApp help about exporting. I hadn't heard about not exporting some data. I've never tried it.
All WhatsApp photos go into a folder in Photos called WhatsApp if it's set to do that.
