I have a macbook air and I'm not sure what's going on but ESET NOD32 Antivirus installed itself somehow and every time I delete it, it comes back. I've uninstalled it multiple times but it keeps coming back. It's very annoying, my guess is that this is a virus, any ideas?

This page suggests running the uninstaller. If you do not have it anymore I think there is a link to the installer/uninstaller on the page.

The thing is I never downloaded it to begin with so I'm not sure how it got installed. I'll try and find an official uninstaller. I did click the app and did 'Show Package Contents' and found something labelled as an uninstaller there. It told me to restart my computer and even then it came back...

You very likely downloaded something from a web site and it piggy backed the ESET AV program along with it. This is a common tactic of some web sites like "Softonic", "CNet", and others.

There is a link to the software on the page I linked to earlier. Click the blue button in step 2 of the directions. It seems to be in an area of the site that requires a password though

I am getting older but I've always been a bit slow in the typing department. I used to get told "slow and steady wins the race". Now none bothers with that fib.
