I wanted to compress and old short movie I did into a quicktime movie to upload to the net, however I can't find it anywhere.

Fortunately I had burned the 2 minute promo onto DVD and I still have that, so is there any way to compress a DVD movie to Quicktime?

First thought I'm having is ffmpegX, which is a very powerful and flexible app. What format is the promo in? Did you want to encode it as a .mov file or .mpeg?

You can use Handbrake. It will let you save either as MP4 or H.264.
