dvd drive region free?

okay, well, no matter what i do, it's still not working. i set all of that right and when i click to open the dvd, i get DIR_EN_GREY, which is the dvd title, then it just says VLC media player again. am i screwed?

if you cant get the vlc player to work i would just go the mac the ripper route and remove the region coding

I don't know what your situation is now, but if it were me I'd just forget about playing it on my mac. I mean for as little as AU$50 (~US$40) I can go to a store and pick up a no-name DVD payer which will be multi-region. It's a lot less hassle and you'd be watching your DVD in no time.

^ i know what you mean, but i'd rather go to the hassle and save myself $40. i'm just kinda aggrivated on why this doesn't work. is there another way other than macthreripper and vlc to get this to work?

Hi,

I couldnt get to work the VLC option I changed the coreaudio to 1. but it doesnt work.

I get this message:

Haha you're just trying to get us to buy more macs (which isn't too bad of an idea) . I live in a region 4 land and own discs from 1, 2, 3, 4, & 6, which means buying way too many macs.

Give VLC another go:
- Set Mac to "Ignore" any inserted DVD in the System Preferences.
- Insert DVD & Launch VLC.
- Change VLC "coreaudio" preference setting to 1 in VLC Preferences.
- Select "Open Disk" from under the "File Menu". If this does now work, use "Open VIDEO_TS folder" option.

I followed all the steps and the movie wont play! any advice???

I've followed this advice but once I get to preferences and audio there is no option for Output Module and I can't seem to find coreaudio anywhere. Has it all recently changed? Any other way? Wanna watch movies! Ta

umm.. simple way is:
- Disable DVD player from starting up when a DVD is inserted
- Install VLC
- VLC > Preferences > Audio > Output Module > coreaudio - change to '1'

After that VLC will play any DVD you put in. Never worry about regions again.

Got VLC 0.8.2? If so the options should be there.
The only thing I can think of is that you have to expand the Audio section to see Output modules, don't just click on Audio. I know it might seem obvious but there isn't any other reason I can think of. Sorry.
