DVD Burning

Hi. I was researching on the net and I found info saying that it was not illegal to burn a dvd movie disk for your own personal use. Is that right or is that wrong?

I am so new with my imac and I wanted to know if having imovie or idvd made me capable of doing this. I'm lost with my new imac and wish I knew how to take advantage of the programs that came with it. I'm trying to prove to my hubby it was not a mistake to switch to the mac but secretly I'm feeling a little/lot lost.

Also can anyone tell me why I can't use the home or end buttons while in every typing situation? Editing my music library in itunes would be easier if that worked. Am I missing a shortcut maybe?
