My 27" iMac has a SSD for the primary drive and a HDD for a storage drive. I am trying to figure out how to keep the HDD from spinning when not in use. It does stop after a while but I rather it quiet-up much sooner and stay that way until I access the drive.

Is this possible?

have you tried to just eject it? then when you want to use it just go to disk utility and mount the drive?

Dont know if it would work but thats what i would try.

That would work, but I would have to do that every time I reboot. I was looking for a more permanent solution. I wonder how difficult it would be to just add another SSD. All the wiring and mount is already there.
