Not to waste everyone's time, but I thought I would share.

I was walking up a few steps on my way to a coffee place and I tripped (I'm old, okay?). I fell forward. My Mac was in an InCase sleeve/carry-case on a strap on my shoulder. It was in Sleep mode. The Mac swung off my shoulder and hit the ground pretty hard. But it was not a long drop.

Anyway, when I got inside the cafe, I inspected the case and got going online, and everything was fine. Everything still is fine.

Guess I was lucky.

Congnrats on choosing a well made machine. Hopefully you came through in as good a condition as your Mac.

About a year ago the front wheel of my chair got tangled in a headphone cord that was attached to my MacBook Pro. When I backed up to get something my Mac hit the floor from desktop height. Came through fine. In fact it never even shut down the video I was converting.

I'm thinking the InCase sleeve/carry-case, strap on shoulder, and that it wasn't a very long drop all contributed to a successful recovery & no damage.

When I first read your title...I thought...ugh-ooh...an unprotected MacBook Pro dropped from waist height...landing on a cement, blacktop, or hard marble floor like surface (not a pretty picture in my head)!

Congrats on getting lucky:). I guessing (or hoping) this probably won't happen again anytime soon!;)

It was probably a cat that tripped him! ;)

(Long running joke for the benefit of those new to the Forum)

With all of the cat problems we've seen/heard of...very very possible this could happen.;)

The next day I was in a Starbucks and chatted up a guy who had a 15". He said that he had dropped his once, and had done some noticeable damage to it, but that it still ran normally. The Apple store replaced his glass, his logic board and, I think, his lid for free under his AppleCare. A one-time "You dropped it, you schmuck. We'll help you out this time, but next time you pay." Apple Store policy.

That was VERY VERY lucky for him! Normally Applecare does not cover accidental damage. But then again...I've heard of a lot of "gray-area" when Apple employee's diagnose & repair an issue.

I've heard that it is quite common to get a "get out of jail free" card on the first screw-up.

I don't think you've seen many of our "liquid spill" threads. Apple isn't usually nearly as flexible with liquid issues.

But I do agree...Apple can sometimes be very flexible when it comes to interpreting the terms and coverage of Applecare.:)

You may, indeed, be right. I wasn't thinking of liquid spills. I was thinking of drops.

Which reminds me. Before I bought my 13", I chatted with a woman at a Whole Foods who had one. She was eating her lunch and on line at the same time. I asked her how her Mac was holding up. She said it seemed to be working quite well, but added, while making a frustrated face, that one of one the keys was stuck. We both then looked down at her keyboard, which was covered in the remains of about a million lunches. Neither one of us said anything. :)

Yeah...computer keyboards can be REALLY nasty places. Food particles, hair, skin cells, finger "cheese". The average persons keyboard is probably dirtier than the bottom of their shoes or their toilet at home!;)

Dropped Mac

Good to hear, my mac too got dropped yesterday with only a x-Doria cover. it fell on tiles from above desktop height when it was being taken somewhere else. It fell screen and keyboard down and when it fell it automatically closed. Then it started beeping like an atom bomb was set off, but we kept it on the table and restarted it it worked perfectly. We didn't even have a screen protector but the screen didn't get a single scratch. Congrats to apple for creating such a wonderful machine!

Since my original post, I dropped my MacBook again. Although it was in the same case, and only fell from about waist high onto a wood floor, I put a nice little dent in the corner of the lid. No problems resulted, but after three years of being careful, it really makes me feel stupid. Ugh!

I was lucky too I guess fell down the stairs today with my macbook pro in my hand it went flying landing the the right way on the cement floor just 2 days prior had the logic board replaced as well. Had no case. But I inspected it no dents or bends. No scratches nothing and it works fine.
