Need some help here. I accidently deleted my app widget from the dock on my MBP. How do I go about reinstalling that widget on the dock bar?

Are you referring to the Application icon on the Dock? If so, do this:

Drag the Application folder icon from your side bar in Finder to the right side of the Dock separator and drop it there. A new Application folder will be created on the Dock.

Applications folder has address book icon

I had the same problem. I right clicked the icon in the preview section of the applications info and dragged it to the right side of the dock. It appears with an address book icon. I right clicked that to try to access the "display as" option, but it's greyed out and unselectable. If I open the "address book" icon on the right side of my dock it IS the applications folder, just the wrong icon. What's the solution?

Thanks

Drag that one off of the dock and then put your Applications folder back on it as described by chscag above.

Wrong icon

I've done that at least five times. Every time as soon as I let go of the mouse button on the dock, the Applications icon switches to the Address icon. I thought about going to the place where the iMac stores icons to try to change it that way, but I don't know where iMac stores the icons.

That's not what you just said. You said, you dragged the icon from the preview section of the Get Info screen. If that's what you did, then the 'Display as" options will probably be greyed out.

Under "Display as", as long as Stack is selected, you're going to see the icon of whatever app comes first alphabetically in your Applications folder. Need to select Folder.

wrong icon

I understand, and I realize that the reason the address icon comes up is because it is first on the list. However, I don't know how to select the Applications folder without it highlighting one of the applications.

I did exactly that. I get the same result: The icon on the dock is the address book.

Then right click on it and change the Display as: to Folder instead of Stack.

Still not working. I open finder, right click on the applications folder, the only options on the pop-up bar are: Open, Open enclosing folder, Get info, and Remove from Sidebar. There is no "Display As" option.

?????

You want to change the icon on the Dock - correct?

Then you will right click on the icon in the Dock - not on the Applications folder in Finder.

Thanks, I finally got it this time. The problem was my not being familiar with how iMac does things. The pop up menu that appeared when right clicking the icon on the dock shows: Display As (greyed out), then Folder, then Stack. I kept trying to click on Display as but of course it was unavailable. I then clicked on Stack trying to deselect it. The solution was just to ignore all of that and click on Folder as you suggested. Just wasn't clear to me as I'm used to PC menus which don't necessarily cross over to Mac.

Thanks again, it worked.
