I just purchased a Macbook Pro. Specs are: 2.5 Ghz, 2 GB Ram, 15" Display, 512mb Video Card, 200 GB 7200 RPM drive. I just noticed a strange display issue: there are dark "spotlights" emanating from the Dock. It's hard to describe, but it looks like several black cloudy marks coming from near the dock. It's driving me nuts! What should I do!?

Can you take a picture of it? If you're near an Apple store I'd suggest you pop in and get it looked at.

I didn't have a camera near me, but I found a HUGE thread on Apple's forums about it. Some people were also claiming the current video card in the MBP (which I have) is/can be faulty. I sort of feel gypped. What would you guys do?

I haven't been able to replicate the display issue, but I look just about every time I fire my Macbook Pro up....

Do the black marks go from the dock up to the top of the screen? I've heard of the backlighting in the monitors having problems that can cause that. If you could post a link to that thread on Apple's forums, that would be great.

And yes, the NVidia 8600M GT graphics cards are prone to failing. Mine overheated last week. Unfortunately, there is currently no fix from Apple or NVidia. Your best bet would be to get the AppleCare Protection Plan, if you don't already have it.

I believe that Apple has a 14 day return policy with no questions asked. If you're that worried about it, just take it back and wait until the problems have been fixed and don't buy a computer with an NVidia Geforce series graphics card, just to be safe.
