Directory Tree

Is there a way I can save a directory of many folders inside folders, containing files, as a data file, not CONTAINING the files, but simply as a tree? I'd like to make perhaps an XML file of a directory, but having minimal coding experience, and not the patience to manually go through the hundreds and thousands of files, would like to know if there is a program that could do this for me! There was an application a while back that could do this with an iTunes library, so I don't know if it's possible or not...
