I've tried the HP docs and websites, many websites. not much help. hp smart software shows the printer but its not available. the printer wont show up at all in system prefs >printers. it worked before I printed with it. how do I remove the printer and start over since its not in system prefs >printers? how do I connect it to the mac? their is no control panel.

says its not connected, while blocking the screen which I would enter the password to connect. this makes no sense.

That's good news to read and I'm glad that whatever you did to fix the problem fix the problem for you.

What fixed it? (For the next person with the problem)
I deleted the app, reinstalled from the app store. choose the printer in the wifi menu and entered the wifi password there.

bad vision. mac skills not as sharp as they use to be... question:

my mac connects to internet via Ethernet. I did this to get better speeds. so I turned off wifi on the mac. but my printer is wifi, so Im "sure" wifi has to be on for the printer to work correct? This would make sense...

if I leave wifi on, how do I make sure the mac uses Ethernet and not wifi for internet use? does it do this automatically? Should I disable wifi and only turn on when using the printer?

printer stopped working again, even though wifi was on. not sure why. trying to figure out what happened or what I did wrong. :/

I'll make the font larger for you @macgig. The printer wifi will connect to the same local area network that the Ethernet from your Mac connects to, so the Mac should see the printer just fine, even with the Mac WiFi turned off.

As for speed, the limits on file transfers through the Internet are probably more based on other factors than your individual Mac speed. Have a read here for the essentials:

Note particularly that it says:

Ultimately, the speed you get will always be limited by the lowest-rated component, whether that’s the cable, port, or switch.
In addition, once any device in the Local Network slows down the net, the entire network slows to the lowest speed. That's how the tech works. Think of it as a one-lane road with a speed limit of 60. If everybody is going 60, that's fine, but if an vehicle slows to 30, then everybody after that is also slowed to 30.

So, bottom line, you don't need WiFi on for the printer and Mac to connect as long as they are both in the same named network and that if you leave WiFi on in the Mac, I don't think you will see any degradation in speed, as many other things affect it. If you suspect WiFi on is slowing your Mac, use Speedtest.net to compare. Note, however, that a confounding factor will be your Internet provider speeds. Again, the "best you can get" will be no better than the slowest in any of all of the links.

so it should print with wifi off?

still unable to print. its worked before. wifi is now off. it sends jobs to printer, won’t let me delete them. says I need to be an admin to delete which I am logged into my admin acct.

the INFO light keeps coming on on the printer, when I turn off, it keeps printing the printer info page… 10 times so far. cant get it to stop.

this printer is new, almost ready to toss it in the dumpster. help!?

hard to fix this stuff with vision issues. so frustrated now.

I sympathize with those who suffer from eyesight problems and I have ended up using several of the Apple provided assistances as my macular degeneration is slowly getting worse, so large fonts are pretty common place for me, so I hope the enlarged text here will help your experience with this thread.

As for your printer problem, I had a similar one a few months ago when I got a new replacement printer when my Canon MX922 Stop Printing properly and I had reset my ISP wireless router and neither printer would work properly.

I resolve the problem using two methods:
1. I follow the directions on the front of the Brother A-I-O inkjet under its network connection window and entered the router address as requested.

2. I also ended up logging in to my ISP Hitron wireless router and enabled the wireless option.

After doing this both routers work wirelessly whether my IMAc's Wi-Fi is on or off.

So maybe have a look at your wireless router settings and see if things will start working better. And also check your printers status window under it's networking menu option.

Hopefully that might solve the problem.

PS: as for extra help with reading on my Mac, I have also enabled text-to-speech using a keyboard shortcut, option Plus(+) S, to replace the Mac OS keyboard option, and then I don't have to try and focus on the printed word and trying to sort out what it says.

Maybe some of the settings with your wireless router provided by my ISP will work with yours:

And here are the wireless settings I ended up with on my wireless router:

Sorry, I can't seem to make the screenshot bigger.

Good luck.

Rather than using the copy-and-paste method, you might find it easier and such situations to drag the attachment to your desktop, open it, which is often using Preview.app and then click the + icon in its menu bar sequentially to make it as big as you like or use the default keyboard shortcut, command and plus (+) keys and multiple pressures may be necessary to get it to the size that makes it usable for you.

Personally I find that method easier than using copy-and-paste.

It's great to hear that HP Tech Support was able to help you get your printer working for you.
