dashboard disappears when I click on it

Just purchased a 2014 27 inch retina with Yosemite. When I click on the dashboard in the dock it brings up a screen different in color and a small frame that looks like a movie choice from Netflix. None of the widgets ( memory etc) that was supplied with the Mac. Any ideas?

Yep, that's the dashboard. In the bottom left corner should be a + and - symbol in little circles. Click the + and a screen will open with all the widgets available to you. Click the one you want to display.
