Damaged flat panel iMac, using external monitor

I plugged in an external VGA monitor to my iMac and everything looks fine except for certain games. For example, when I play Freedom Force my screen strobes. Is there a way to change some video settings to eliminate the strobing?

System Preffs > Monitor settings.

They will change according to what external monitor you've plugged in.
