I have a problem when typing on my Macbook Air mid 2012.
When i am typing, in mail or in Word, or inputting numbers in Excel my cursor suddenly moves to another part of the document, or spreadsheet. I have not discovered any consistency in the way the cur Do You have any remedyor moves, nor anything that triggers this malfunction.

An example above, The phrase "Do You have any remedy" was spontaneously inserted in the middle of the word "cursor".
Or "cur or" or the s was subsituted by "Do You etc"

Should I get a new computer, or can You help me fix it??

Hi RAGGEC,

Your MB Air is really new for what I think it could be so I am not sure this is the problem. From what I have read it could be:
1. a bad battery swelling and that causes trackpad issues
2. a cracked trackpad glass - and I have no idea how you can tell.
3. a software issue from either an update or some other piece of bad code. ( a wipe and reinstall of the OS might eliminate that as a problem.)

Do you have any apple care and can you visit an apple store? They will do a free evaluation even if you don't have any apple care left.

Some others here may have some ideas that I haven't thought of.

No offense intended but are you new to using the trackpad? I had similar issues when I started using trackpads. I have what typing teachers often refer to as lazy hands. An errant touch on the keyboard caused by misplaced hands/fingers can cause this.

I took me some time to get the trackpad adjusted to my liking. In fact I currently use a separate Magic Trackpad so I can place it in a position where that is less likely to happen.

One can do a similar thing with the Magic Mouse and the extra finger does not even have to touch the surface but if it is close enuff the OS reads it as a 2 ( or 3 ) finger gesture.

Thank You all
New battery and reinstalled OS X in several variant a couple of times.
At least upper surface of trackpad is intact.

Lazy typing, might be me, but it didn't happen with my old Macbookair mid 2011.
My third macbook air with trackpad, and as far as I remember, the first one giving me this trouble (or the first one I am giving this trouble)
I will try to monitor my typing and see if this might be the problem.

hmm how is the trackpad adjusted to Your liking?

What gestures on the trackpad would cause the cursor to move erratically?

best regards

I guess you've checked Apple's checklist???:
Trackpad or Magic Trackpad is jumpy or erratic - Apple Support

And be aware of the goofy trackpad problem an acquaintance was experiencing that was driving him crazy — we finally discovered it was due the cuffs of his sweater that was touching the trackpad at times.

I had to go into the trackpad preference pane and fool around with the settings to get things that worked for me. Basically a lot of trial and error.
