Good day.
I have several home movies of my granddaughter when she was small. Been thinking of getting one or two on to my MacBook.
Been looking on google etc for ideas. One idea was to use a software called handbrake is that safe to install on my MacBook.?
any other ideas please.
Thanks.
David.

Handbrake is safe, as long as you get it from the developer site directly.

It may not be that simple. What format are your movies in at the moment? Where are they?

If they are on any "tape" they are still analog and may need to be converted to digital.

Handbrake should be able to move those movies from the DVD to a file your Mac can use.

Personally, I find that Handbrake's interface can be daunting to new users. Fortunately, several other pieces of software can do the job. Some are free, and others are available for a fee. Check the App Store and find one with an interface that you understand.

Unless you only used the DVD for storing mp4 files the videos will not be in that format. In other words, if you can put that DVD in a DVD player and it plays I can almost bet the videos will not be in mp4 format.

Either way Handbrake can do the job. As Slydude says the interface can be a bit confusing but it is great at creating the best quality and getting the audio sync'd correctly. I have used it on videos that have been sent to us that were shot with only who knows what and Handbrake has re-encoded them and the audio is perfect.
