Hello

I recently upgraded my mbp with a new SSD and later replaced the optical drive with the old HDD.

Now I wonder if I can control the HDD, which only serves as additional storage.

Is there a way to separately start the HDD, or shut it down while the SDD which runs the systems keeps running? I don't use it too often and the noise it makes annoys me, knowing that the SSD on its own is super quite.

Thanks for any help and advice

No, both are on or off. And you can't put one drive to sleep without doing the same with the other. I don't understand what you mean by the noise the HDD is making? If the drive is not being used, it shouldn't be making noise unless it's defective.

An internal laptop HD should be almost silent. If it's making noise (enough to be annoying)…then something doesn't sound right.
