•Bluetooth in Settings tells me *my* keyboard is at 49%.
•Keyboard in Settings tells me the keyboard is at 89%.
Which is the accurate level?

Power the keyboard off, then back on again, then it should give the same information.

Which keyboard are you referring to? Apple or 3rd party? Does it tk batteries you replace, or does it plug in to charge the internal battery?

Apple branded Bluetooth keyboard, with AA batteries (good quality). Bluetooth reading is still 49%, specific Keyboard setting 89%.

Will try the power off method, then battery removal and reinsertion.

Thank you.

Can you check the remaining charge in the batteries?

Both remain in the green zone when under load, and a voltage check returns 1.5v. Speculating, I will probably need to change the batteries in about a week's time.

I know the keyboard, which I use a lot, is quite hard on (the alkaline) batteries, which is one reason I use quality units rather than the cheapest ones.

But still the two quite different remaining charge readings.

Yeah, I don't like that discrepancy either, it's too a big difference to my liking.

Just checked mine in both areas, and they agree with each other.

I use the Bluetooth devices menu in Control Center which is just a reflection of the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar which I choose to have hidden. It's always been accurate and shows the same levels no matter which method I use however my keyboard is not a removeable battery type. It's my guess that is the issue. Did it ever work accurately for your keyboard?

Not sure if it's still available but my Apple keyboard can be connected via cable or run on battery. This effectively means I never really need to worry about the level because I can use it while charging.

I have one of those keyboards, but from (dodgy) memory I returned to the 2022 model keyboard w/batteries because:
•the newer one required an Apple-specific cable (used for recharging my iPhone) to connect it
and
•I preferred its key touch
and
•the slope on it was/is better for my arthritic hands/wrists.

Ah, well then you have other important considerations to take into account. Mine, like yours probably has a Lightning Bolt connection which I don't use for much these days as everything of mine is USB-C.

For anyone remotely interested in and following this thread, I'm continuing to test the Apple lightning-connected keyboard. As I've mentioned earlier, it has features with which I'm not altogether happy, one of them being the front edge height from desk surface (and as discussed before, the cursed padlock symbol).

Enter, stage left, two rulers, totalling 6 mm (US 1/4"), as a lifter. I'm just wondering if anyone else has found the need to further elevate the front edge, and has someone found a handy method. I've plenty of scrap timber to use, but I'm thinking of a glued plastic strip under the front edge.
