Periodically I have found that, when I access contacts it is locked to the last contact I had used. The ’arrow out icon’ is missing. I have just updated to iOS 18.1 and that seems to have solved the problem whether temporarily or permanently time will tell. I would e interested to know if others have experienced this problem.

Do you mean on iPhone? I'm on my iPad right now and it is as you describe, on the last contact I searched for, to exit I tap the sidebar icon, top left. This takes me back to the List I was in (All iCloud) then there is a left arrow top left which takes me back to the Lists menu. This is on 17.7.1 (as far as this iPad can be updated) but the behavior is different on my iPhone iOS 18.1
The contact is the last searched for but there is a left arrow top left. Tapping that takes me back to the list I was in then it changes to lists. Are you saying you don't have that?

If you could provide a screenshot of the issue it would enable us to better understand, "a picture worth a 1000 words etc".

Of course you did say the update seems to have fixed it. Often I have found a "hard" restart or even just turning the device off and on fixes things like that. It's never been an issue for me on my devices. I hope it stays fixed.

If restarting fixes it temporarily then I would be inclined to suspect the iOS software is at fault. If you have a backup you could try Restoring the phone via USB cable.
There is also an update available iOS 18.1.1

If you have tried everything to no avail Restoring is perhaps the last option. This article describes the process and I would go with Method 1.

The above method describes how to create an Encrypted backup to preserve all your settings and data. Just one proviso with that. You will be creating a Backup Encryption Key, make sure you copy and paste this into a Note or Document because if you lose it you will not be able to access your backup.

Not fixed! Still need to restart to access all contacts. Happens at least twice a week!

Welcome to mac-forums.com forums but you'll need to add some details as to what is not fixed and why or what is happening when you post a problem and need some help with a solution or fix.

Hopefully you will get a positive reply when after you provide some details regarding your particular problem you mentioned in this thread.
