I stream sports on my MBP laptop via KODI but would like to watch some of it on my WS TV. I have AirPlay but it comes out very jerky on the TV, almost unwatchable!
I have connected the two together via the Thunderbolt and the HDMI on the MBP an HDMI input on the TV but I get no sound coming through from either?

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Are you able to change the output device in preferences --> sound?

What model year is your MBP? Thunderbolt, which used to be Mini Display Port, didn’t used to carry sound, in early MBP versions.

Also, try an NVRAM & SMC reset. When I had my Late 2011 MBP, I had to do multiple SMC resets to get the video and sound both working.

Sorry, don't know what those are :\

No, the only options are Internal Speaker or Air Play.

Looks likes the Macbook can't pass audio over dp/hdmi, the cable won't pass audio, or the display does not recognise the audio signal from the Macbook.

OK, thanks. That model will send audio and video through thunderbolt & HDMI ports. So you do not need the audio cables and one of the two resets I mentioned will fix the issue, or, there is hardware issue.

When connected via HDMI or dp to hdmi cable, "Full HDTV" should appear as an output device. This is what I see on my late 2013 13"MBP.

Yes, you're absolutely right Audit13! What I wasn't doing was going to the preferences with the HDMI connected before running KODI. I now get full sound via the TV!! Excellent!

The only other issue is the actual picture. I only get two options once the HDMI is connected to the TV, 4:3 which gives a small, square picture in the middle of the screen or Wide Zoom which elongates the picture horizontally but not vertically, making people short and fat!
Either is watchable but would be nice to fill the screen!
I'm getting there!!
