• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

On Windows I used an application called Camtasia Studio for making videos/movies or computer screen recordings.

I'm new to a Mac and wanted to know what was available on a Mac OS X to do computer screen recordings like Camtasia Studio?

Thank you

Oops

I saw a previous post asking this question.

I saw there is iShowU and it works great!

Sorry for not doing that sooner.

cp-apple - There are a few applications for screen recording on mac.

1. Screenium -http://www.synium.de/products/screenium/index.html

2. IShowU- http://www.shinywhitebox.com/home/home.html

3. ScreenFlow - http://www.flip4mac.com/screenflow.htm

And I have used both IShowU and Screenflow and they both work very well.

And if you need a good application to write and record your speeches of you reading your words aloud, add movies, images and titles – and then easily publish your finished presentation to websites or weblogs see VideoCue at:
http://www.flip4mac.com/videocue.htm

Also, if you are looking for an application that you can hold a live webcasting with, see Wirecast: http://www.flip4mac.com/wirecast.htm

I hope this helps.

another vote for snapz pro x, fast, easy, and all around pretty good, for fullscreen recording be sure to check the "smoother but more CPU intensive capture" or else it won't know what you wan't it to capture, so it'll just capture you desktop for 10 minutes. :)

iShowU and ScreenFlow to me are the two most superior.

Snapz Pro is limited to writing to the startup drive. That sucks if you have limited space.

volta88, I'm not sure what you are describing, but can't say I've seen that issue.

ScreenFlow seems to be the best OS X capture software out currently. After capturing the whole screen, you edit within it where you can easily hilite and zoom to things of interest, etc.

I thought I heard that the people behind Camtasia Studio were coming out with a Mac variant.

I know Screenflow allows you to have video and edit it in the same program. Does Screenium and iShowu allow this or do you have to add other programs for this?
