Hi everyone,
Hopefully I have the correct forum here.

I'm a windows tech who has a User that has been issued a MacBook Pro for
some specific work.

The mac came from our Corp HQ, but no one there is terribly familiar with
Macs, so much so they sent a dock that is incompatible with the MBP, so
I'm trying to track one down.

The mac info is:

Serial no. : C02X85V5JG5M
MacBook Pro 15-inch 2018 **

** The mac has the Touch Bar

I found this doc, which I'm pretty sure will work, but hoping to get confirmation
from someone who actually knows :)

Thanks!

Do I dare ask why the Mac User needs a dock or what is the main purpose of needing one???

And why is the current one incompatible?? Which brand and model is it???

And I guess it doesn't really matter, but I assume the company is paying for the MacBook and the dock???

BTW: That dock you mentioned may work, I didn't bother checking, but it's price is well above a normal price for a MBPro dock, at least in my experience.
But maybe the company has lots of money. ;-)

EDIT:
This article may give you a better option of choices and prices here:
The best Thunderbolt 3 docks for Apple's 2019 iMac, 2018 MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and MacBook Air
The best Thunderbolt 3 docks for Apple's 2019 iMac, 2018 MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and MacBook Air

I hope that helps.

The first doc they sent wouldn't work with any Mac iOS after 10.13.3

The second doc they sent was for a 13" MBP, and this is a 15"

User just wants a setup with external monitors, keyboard etc...

And yes, the company is paying.

Regardless I guess, but check out some of the choices in the URL list I sent, and by the way, the dock you mentioned in your Amazon link is included in that list and about half the price as well as what Amazon has it listed at.

BTW: Mac OS and iOS are for different devices. iOS being for Apple's iDevices, macOS for Apple's Mac computer models.

Just being a bit fussy here, but that's how computers and digital stuff work and think as well. :Smirk:

Thanks for that link. I'd actually stumbled on to that one as well, but couldn't quite suss what would work
with the mac we have.

Maybe I missed something, but when I click on the "Landing Zone" option w/in that list it takes me to a site
and the $$ is exactly the same as what Amazon has it for.

Maybe I was getting switched to a different site as I am connecting from Canada.

Anyway, just confirm prices to be sure but you're not getting fleeced somewhere. As far as I know, B&H Photo has a very good Mac support reputation, especially in the US.

Only sometimes!!! And don't forget our dollar is 30% less than the US dollar, at least for now unless your President and his taffifs messes that up and the US dollar takes a bit of a dive.

But I'm getting off topic I think.

You have a "User that has been issued a MacBook Pro for
some specific work." Ever think to ask the User what they need?

KenK

The User is a wndows pc user and a. is not familiar with mac, and b. has no idea what it is they need, other than they want a
full on external monitor, keyboard, mouse etc.. set up, which is what I was tasked with and why I posted onto this forum.

The "specific work" that she is using the mac for is for keystone files.

Do you have a suggestion that would prove helpful?

Okay, you got me, what's a "keystone" file? Or are you perhaps referring to a "Keynote" file"? (similar to a Powerpoint file)

Thanks!

The first one wouldn't work as the User wants/needs external monitors (2 of 'em).

But the second one would definitely fit the bill.

Thanks again for the reply/info!
