communicating between iPad and MacBook Pro

I want to be able to communicate between a MacPro running on OS X 10.8.5 and a Mini iPad running on IOS 7.8.3 and I'm using the same Apple ID on both machines.

I understand that the key to doing this successfully is to assign (if that's the right word) a unique e-mail address to each device. I have attempted to do this but it didn't help.

I have also created a new Apple ID for the iPad in an attempt to get around the problem. This doesn't work either. (It does allow me to contact one device from the other, but I get a ring tone on both devices and when I answer the call I get a busy signal and then a disconnection.)

Any help in solving this problem would be much appreciated.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "communicate?" Also, can you clarify your actual iOS version? There's no such thing as 7.8.3.

By "communicate" I just mean I want to be able to have a FaceTime conversation with another person, while, say they are using my iPad and I'm using my computer.

I made a mistake with the iOS number. It's actually 7.0.3
