I am using a macbook pro with Sierra version 10.12.5. the command to switch focus to another window is not working even though I tried changing the shortcut key and restoring defaults etc. Any way to make it work? I have a Windows keyboard attached to the USB hub so I use Cmd(Windows Key) + ` . I tried other combinations like Alt+Tab etc. but that doesn't work either and even using the Mac keyboard doesn't work.

Are you referring to setting up the windows in "Mission Control"? If you are, have you tried going into "System Preferences", Mission Control, and setup the hot keys?

@salilsurendran

I'm a little confused.

the command to switch focus to another window

Do you mean "change to another Desktop", like this? -

Or do you mean "changing between Windows within a single Desktop"?

Assuming you want to switch to another app what you want is Cmd+Tab. If you hold the Cmd key then you get the list of running apps to choose from otherwise it will switch to the last used app.

Also, test with the keyboard directly connected to your Mac, not using the hub.

You switch between multiple applications with CMD+tab and you switch between multiple windows of the SAME application using CMD+`. However, for the multiple windows of the same application to work, both (or all) windows need to be open and not minimized. You can also click on the icon of the app in the Dock to switch between it's windows..

Cmd + tab is working to switch between applications. But CMD + ` is not switching between windows of the same application. So for eg. if I have two chrome windows or microsoft word documents open then CMD + ` doesn't cycle between the open windows. I have noticed that when I do close the Chrome windows then the application closes with an animation like it is in a different desktop

The CMD+` is finicky about switching to different space with a separate window. If both windows are in the same space, it works fine. In cases when the windows are not, click on the dock icon to switch between the windows..
