I've been a user of Maintain's Cocktail app for over 10 years, and I figured it was time to look at alternatives for tools to clean caches, etc.

Is OnyX still a viable alternative? I see the developer is still updating the app,

Yes, I know there are two schools of thought on programs like this: (1) don't mess with them because the OS handles all of it for you; and (2) yes, you should run a tool like this regularly. So one of my alternatives absolutely is to drop the idea altogether. What I like about Cocktail is the ability to run those utilities from one dashboard.

Your opinions are welcome!

My opinion: it is a relatively rare occasion when you will ever need such an app. But there will come a time when one is needed.

OnyX is the time-honoured app which is often recommended on these Forums. And rightly so.

It can be downloaded free from:

It is essential that you select the version suited to your Mac's present Operating System.

From the app, select "Maintenance" and use the default settings therein.

If you are a hardened user, you may select any of the many other options. Otherwise, stick with "Maintenance".
