Hi, New to Mac and to OS x. I have just purchased a 13" Macbook Pro. I have a keyboard, mouse and external monitor for it. With my windows laptop I was able to choose what action for it to take when the cover was closed. Shut Down, Sleep, hibernate, do nothing, etc. Is there any way to choose with the MacBook? I would like to keep the cover closed and be able to use the external devices to work.

Thanks

Haven't tried it, but this will apparently do what you want it to:

InsomniaX

If you have Caffeine installed, typing "caffeinated" in a Terminal window is supposed to work too, but I checked it, and it doesn't.

Take a look at Apple's instructions for operating your MacBook Pro using "Clamshell mode". Apple KB link I think that's what you want, if not, follow Kevin's advice.
