Tell us how you're trying to access the Character Viewer and what errors if any you're getting.

Here's how I do it:

System Preferences, Language & Text. Click on the "Input Sources" tab. Now place a checkmark in the box below that states: "Keyboard and Character Viewer".

Thank you chscag,
I have no problem getting the Character Viewer up (I can use cmd/option/T or pull it down from my Input Sources) but when I click on a character, nothing happens. This was working before I upgraded to Snow Leopard so I though there may be a patch or upgrade.

OK, I see what you mean. I'm not running Snow Leopard but in Mountain Lion it's drag and drop from the character viewer to text or elsewhere. Try that to see if it works for you the same way.

It used to be you just had to double-click the accented Latin character (or anything else from the Character Viewer) and it would be entered into your document wherever the cursor was located. Now, in Mavericks, it appears you have to drag-n-drop. Not the best way to accomplish what should be a simple task. I can double-finger click on my Macbook Air trackpad to copy the information, but then I get what you see below. Apple needs to clean this up.
