changing mtu in osx (newb to mac sry lol)

well i recently got my ibook and i have aol dsl.. i got aol dsl but it asks me to change my mtu by opening a terminal and doing somthing.. could u could guys leave like detailed intstuctions cuz i have no idea what terminal is or where to find it let alone open some thread and add some command line

again sry for the newb question
