Going back to back ups on CD/data DVDs possibly created in OS 9. I have tried to mount these discs in Yosimete and in Snow and the drive seems to go into a loop and at one point I had to shut down in an attempt to just eject let alone mount on my desktop.
I can remember the 'old' days in OS 7 when the Mac would try to open anything-even PC discs!
Ok, I appreciate software that old won't open, but what about eg., jpg files etc...?

No they will not as Classic does not perform on anything later than Tiger OS X.4. You might like to investigate a program called SheepShaver.

Cannot comment about being compatible with Yosemite. Was compatible up to Classic OS 9.0.4. Find chas m on the threads and shoot him a Personal Message. Do this by clicking on chas' name in a post.

Does the CD or DVD actually mount with your Mac?

And a .jpg that was a .jpg in System 9 or earlier is still a .jpg in any Mac OS X and should still work.

The later OS X just won't bother trying to read any extra resource parts of the file and doesn't need them. Same with .txt files and a lot of others.

Classic or PPC support only get involved with propriety files like AppleWorks etc., and it's latest files can work up to including OS X 10.6.8.
