The disc slot on my mid-2010 MacBook Pro is blocked. Nothing in there, but i can't slide a disc into it. I've tried everything i can think of, and read everything i could on the internet. Now i'm stumped. Any have an idea? Thanks.

Hi Danny - please tell us what you have done, otherwise we will simply be wasting time being told 'I've tried that' (yes, happens often). Here is Apple's Support Article but assume that you've been there. Of course, the 'disc grabbing mechanism' may be broken (I have an external Apple SuperDrive) after 10+ years - if no other suggestions help, then check Amazon or elsewhere; external USB CD/DVD drives go for $20+ only. Good luck - Dave :)

Are you putting the disk in the correct way up? Switched off and back on again?

Second what Dave says about getting an external disk drive.

$20-$30 is a good price, considering what I would have to pay to get the Mac repaired. Good advice guys. Thanks.:)

Well, there is either something inside there or the loading mechanism is kaput and fubar.

The suggestion of getting an external disk drive sounds like a pretty good deal, and you'll probably end up with a better drive than the one Apple supplied.

On my 2011 iMac, there's a metal tab that rises to block the slot when you have a disk inserted. That tab, for whatever reason, ended up stuck in the "up" position. I removed the drive, studied it, partly took it to bits - nothing I could see pointed to the problem or to a solution. A replacement unit cost me about $12 on eBay.
