Do you have any idea of what's remaining of MacFuse? Is it the Preference Pane item or something else?

When I try to plug in my external HD I get this message:

NTFS-3G could not mount /dev/disk1s1
at /Volumes/WD Passport PM because the following problem occurred:

/Library/Filesystems/fusefs.fs/Support/fusefs.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) link error; check the system/kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8).
the MacFUSE file system is not available (71)

OK, thanks for posting back. Do you know how to navigate your way around the Mac file system? If you do, navigate to:

MacIntosh HD/Library/Filesystems/fusefs.fs/Support/fusefs.kext and delete everything below "Filesystems". Do not delete the folder "Filesystems".

You may have to give your admin password in order to delete it. It's also possible the system may not allow you to delete it at all. If that happens, we can try deleting it in safe mode.

Let us know if that works.

Thanks for helping me out. I do know my way about a mac quite well, I'm a web designer but from a PC background so haven't really got to grips with the Terminal yet.

I tried to locate those files but only goes as far as fusefs.fs

Texas, where else?

... navigate to:

MacIntosh HD/Library/Filesystems/.... and delete everything below "Filesystems". Do not delete the folder "Filesystems".

...

e.g. delete the fusefs.fs file

The kext file he also put into the path, you don't have. That's why you're getting the error.

Have you been into System Preferences and opened the MacFuse preference pane there? It has it's own uninstaller built into it.

If it doesn't work at this point - it probably won't since you were already missing the support item in the file structure. The easiest way is to reinstall it, then use the uninstaller inside the preference pane.

I've deleted it from the system prefs pane.

Not sure if it's fully removed or not now.
