Canon Printer Crash Necessitating Daily Printer (Preferences) Reset

Oh, I thought you'd cracked it. You can't do anything by wifi unless it's enabled.

It will scan via wifi but you have to instruct it from the Mac. Place document on scanner, on Mac open Canon Scan Utility from Applications.

Not so for us with our networked iMacs, none of which have their Airport enabled, our wireless base (Airport Express) acts as the wireless base. Odd thing that eh??? :Blushing:

PS: We had a Canon MG5620 that I just replaced with a Canon MX922.

And scanning worked from the installed print queue window wirelessly for both.

If that doesn't work, open Image Capture.app, click the "Share" disclosure and the wireless scanner/AIO shold show and then do its scanning thing.

BTW: I don't see your Canon Pixma MG7751 listed as an AirPrint supported printer, but that's my .ca site, so maybe check your UK/Europe site. Close but not exact model by this:

Result 2: Only works while the print queue window is 'active', having just printed a document.
A few seconds later the 'Scanner' button greys-out as the window becomes inactive -- ridiculous!
Plugging the USB in activates the Scanner button ... no issue with stalling overnight like the USB print queue.

Result 3: Yes, only this works reliably but is not at all intuitive through the selection panes.

OK, Canon IJ Scan Utility 2 is in my dock now for instant wireless scanning. Thanks. Obviously not bundled with the main Canon driver for this printer. Now I have two means of scanning wirelessly of which the Canon IJ Scan Utility 2 is easier. This is a useful thread for Canon Pixma users, especially in Europe, wishing to use WiFi printing and scanning.

If you want to use the Mac way and make it a bit easier, goto your System Preferences… > Printers & Scanners, select your Canon Pixma MG7751 and in the resulting "print" window, click the Scan button then the Open Scanner button and your Canon MG7751 app should show in your Dock.

Right-click the icon in the dDock and select Keep in Dock.

PS: I believe the normal Canon printer scanner driver actually uses the Mac's Image Capture.app. Set it's options when the scan window opens to make sure ALL DETAILS tab has been clicked and set what you want for a default. (Which may not always stick. )

You can probably also scan at the printer using its display panel for scanning for another choice.

Not in my case. I just followed the setup instructions and part of that included some "printer support" software.

But, it may have helped that Apple provided a seemingly general Canon printer Update not too long ago, no doubt because it saw I was already using a Canon printer.

What doesn't seem to get installed, unless one used the included CD installer that is probably ancient with old software versions. And Canon isn't very helpful there as they don't even list their appropriate software in their support and software page. At least no in their Canon Canada support page.

The OP can get what applications they may want or need at a UK site such as:

(OP) The Canon MG7751 printer (UK market) in question just broke after 13 months: failed printhead contact for magenta chip. I replaced it with a Canon TS8052 at £150, less £30 cashback, which takes the same 570/571 cartridges. Curiously, I print seamlessly via a USB cable and haven't needed wifi at all with the new printer, which suits me fine. It appears the MG7700 series had a few quirks and problems (wifi, poor cartridge access, software) which Canon resolved in the new TS8000 series.

Printer manufacturers really should 'home test' their machines in real-world user situations before releasing them onto the market. The build quality of all manufacturers declines year-by-year but I found Canon to be the best of the bunch over the past 20 years as a computer user. Epson also not bad; HP not good.

Good luck with your new Canon printer. I gave up on Canon printers long ago because of their poor quality control. I experienced the same thing as you... failed printhead. Nowadays, printer manufacturers make their money on consumables and sell their hardware at reduced prices.
