I have a Canon MG 3620 on my network. My wife's Intel MBP, running Monterey, has no problem connecting to it. On my M1 MBP, also running Monterey, I frequently have to delete and add the printer back to get it to work. Any ideas why? Is this a known problem or somehow unique to me?

Have you checked out and followed the procedure on these sites???:

Wireless Set Up - PIXMA MG3620

What happens when you go to print normally???

Wireless printing can be much slower than connection printing, and are you waiting long enough???

Is the printing being loaded to your print queue???

Or it is just nothing happen???

Can you add that printer as a network printer and try it that way???
I didn't check it specs or connection options...

Yes. That isn't the problem. It is set up and when it works it works fine. The problem is it always works for my wife's Intel MBP, but sometimes fails for my M1 MBP. When that happens the only solution is to delete the printer and add it back. That always works at least for a while.

I get various error messages like paper not loaded and such but the most interesting one is when it says the computer can't connect to the printer.

Maybe try and have your wife look at your printer problem and see if she cannot sort out what the problem is or might be.

And I guess you have probably checked out sites such as these:
and

And run any printer diagnostics software that might be installed on your Mac.

Is your wireless router recognizing and have your printer listed according to the printer display window??? I would also check that.

Good luck.

I've tried or used all the suggestions except this one. Where would I locate that and does it specifically check M1 connections vs Intel?

If it exists, it would be from your printer vendor. And connections are standards, so the CPU doesn't matter.

OK, then that won't solve the problem. My problem is the printer is on the network and the Intel MBP, running Monterey, always works and the M1 MBP, also running Monterey, eventually fails. I can also print from a Mac Mini running Mojave. This really seems to be an M1 issue of some sort. It is relatively easy to delete and re-add the printer but it is still a PITA.

Do you keep the printer powered on 24/7? I ask because if you shut it down and then power on, it reconnects to the network and gets an IP assigned which may or may not be the same. It's a longshot, but just want to eliminate that as a cause.

I don't think it's a bug in Monterey. I have an HP printer in the network and it worked perfectly for me under Monterey and now does so under Ventura. If it were a bug in the OS, it would be pretty much universal to everyone, not just you and your printer. Can you take a screenshot of your printer settings so we can see what is set up?

It shuts off when not in use. However, it always starts up properly for an Intel based computer and usually, until it doesn't, for my M1 computer.

I'm certain it isn't or the Intel based computer would have the same problem. The problem seems pretty clearly to be connected to the M1 MBP.

As all your Macs and your printer seem to be on the same Network, and the MBPro is reliable and consistent in its ability to print, why not set the MBPro up as a print server using the System Preferences > Sharing and set your M1 MBP to print to the shared printer.

Just a suggestion to save you having to re-establish your printer every time it fails in its connection.

If you need even more sharing/printing help, especially for any Air Printing, you could try using Handy Print:

Have you tried just restarting the M1 Mac?

My wife's computer is often shut down or asleep.

Yes. Only deleting and adding back the printer seems to work. Also, with the latest drivers you have an option to use Bonjour or the Canon IJ Network. The latter seems to work better although I don't know why it should. Bonjour always worked ok before, except when it didn't.

Then you are astute enough to realize that would not be a recommended method of using her machine as a shared print server. ;-)
But something for you to remember if she ever decides to leave it running which is quite a common practice to do these days and your printer is still giving you problems.
